Legal insights. Practical preparation.
General educational guides for clients and useful updates for legal professionals.
These introductory guides are not advice on a particular case. Future legal-update articles should state an author, review date and official sources.
Preparing for your first consultation
Write a short timeline with important dates. List the parties involved and what you want to resolve. Identify any notices or deadlines. Ask the office how to share documents securely before sending them.
Bring questions about scope, availability, estimated costs and next steps. Keep originals safe and prepare an index of the copies you provide.
Questions to ask before engaging a lawyer
- What work will you handle, and what falls outside the scope?
- Who will be responsible for my matter?
- What fees and expenses should I expect, and when are they due?
- How will we communicate and track important dates?
Ask for clear written terms. A platform listing or inquiry does not establish that a lawyer has accepted your matter.
Organizing documents for a legal matter
Group records by topic and date. Use descriptive filenames and keep a list of originals, copies and missing items. Preserve complete messages and attachments rather than isolated excerpts.
Share documents only with the intended recipient through an agreed channel. Do not put personal case documents in public reviews or directory forms.
Finding official Philippine legal updates
Begin with the issuing institution. Confirm the publication date, text and relevant amendments before relying on an update.
Planned editorial series
Contracts and business operations; property and family-law explainers; legal technology; MCLE and events; official legal updates. Topic-specific legal articles will be added after lawyer review and source verification.
